Ballinrobe are the latest Mayo club on the lookout for a new football manager following the departure of Peter Ford.
The former Galway and Sligo manager, who also played full back for Mayo, has stepped down after three years in charge. Ballinrobe reached last year’s IFC final, only to lose to Kilmeena by 1-9 to 1-11. They also lost this year’s IFC semi-final to eventual county champions Crossmolina after extra-time.
“A former distinguished wearer of the club jersey, Peter assembled an excellent backroom team that included John Gilrane, Colm Jennings, Billy Burke, Davy Walsh, David McDonnell, Evan Gannon and Emma Jennings,” Ballinrobe GAA posted on social media.
“All involved in the club wish Peter and his backroom colleagues every success in the future and know that they will continue to keep Ballinrobe GAA Club very much in their hearts.”
Ford joins a long list of Mayo club managers who have stepped down in recent weeks, including Barry Moran and Neil Lydon (Castlebar Mitchels), Martin Connolly (Westport), John Reilly (Kilmeena), Tómas Morley (Ballaghaderreen), Tom Mulderrig (Ballintubber), Martin Maloney (Garrymore), and Peter Mulry and Michael Gaynard (Belmullet).
