A broken thumb is set to rule Cillian Kiely out of Kilcormac/Killoughey’s Offaly SHC final showdown with Ballinamere on Sunday.

The injury, which the county star sustained against Coolderry in the semi-final, is a huge blow to his side’s hopes of retaining the Sean Robbins Cup, but if any team can absorb such a loss, it’s K/K who have a wealth of talent at their disposal with All-Ireland U20 winner Brecon Kavanagh expected to deputise in the number six shirt.

News of the injury comes after Kiely was named on the Joe McDonagh Cup Team of the Year following a series of outstanding displays at centre back for Offaly in the second-tier competition which culminated in a thrilling victory over Laois in last June’s final at Croke Park.

Ballinamere, who are appearing in their first Offaly SHC final in 116 years, have no injury concerns.
