Donnelly targets Ulster SFC return

Tyrone's Mattie Donnelly is tackled by Donegal's Stephen McMenamin

Tyrone hope to have Mattie Donnelly available for their Ulster SFC clash against Donegal on May 17th.

Donnelly has been sidelined since badly tearing his hamstring in a club game last November; an injury that required surgery and one that needs constant rehabilitation.

The severity of the injury meant there was a possibility if not managed right, it could be career ending, but Tyrone strength and conditioning coach Jonny Davis told the Ulster Herald that the target for the Tyrone captain to make his comeback was the Donegal game.

“I have a lot of experience dealing with the type of injury Mattie has and the recovery from it,” stated Davis. “I have worked with players who have similar injuries and we have a good rehabilitation programme for him.

“I have the hope that he could play a part against Donegal in the championship and he is making great progress.”
