Wexford GAA secretary Aoife Parle has condemned the rise in abusive phone calls she has received in relation to championship fixture requests that haven’t been granted.

Wexford have been more accommodating than most counties in this regard, calling off fixtures during the recent Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann which took place in Wexford Town, and also making next weekend a free weekend to allow players to attend Electric Picnic.

Parle, who is also secretary of the Wexford Competitions Control Committee (CCC), said in a county board statement: “Unfortunately, there have been some instances of people involved with teams making abusive phone calls when a match was not fixed to their liking. All (at the County Executive meeting) agreed this was unacceptable.”

Meanwhile, Geraldine O’Hanrahan’s have withdrawn from the Wexford IFC in what is a worrying development for football in the New Ross area.
