Big win to get. Means that there is far less pressure on the league - and even the Leinster championship - next year.

Gray, Flynn and O'Connor all excellent. Very good nucleus there and now the younger lads have an experience of winning a big game in Croke Park.

very proud Meathman today lads. Im out of country atm but found a little Irish bar... Delighted for Donal Keogan to lift a cup for Meath. And a victory for traditional Meath values of strength and doggedness around the middle. Up the Royals. Enjoy the celebrations.

Excellent second half with some wonderful scores. We were big underdogs today. When was the last time we won 6 competitive games in a row? Even though its the Tailteann Cup, it's invaluable to get that winning feeling into the side.

Well done to Colm and the lads. Guaranteed a last 16 place next season and a piece of silverware to boot.

Is there anything going on later for homecoming?

Well done to all concerned, put early season form behind them and got rewarded for all the effort and commitment over last few months, must have been difficult for the senior lads to commit and DK, COS, J Mac Shane Mac nd PH deserve a special mention for their part in helping the rebuild. Made hard work of it in first half, taking wrong options and constant turnovers. Different team in second half and fully deserved the win. Great displays all over the pitch, Ronan Ryan and Pauric Harnan at spine of defence, Grey, Flynn and Jones at midfield ( happy to see Meathmen fielding ball) and for me Matt Costello was outstanding from start to finish. Kickouts, defense and especially workrate were top class, still a way to go but without a doubt we are heading in right direction. Finally great to see the joy ( a comperition belittled by some) the win brought to players, management and supporters alike.

People on here calling us underdogs today don't have a clue. We beat them in Parnell pairc and always looked the better team then. It was the same story today. There is big potential in that meath team..onwards and upwards. Congrats to all involved.

Very well done to all for the win.... Several questions were answered eventhough this win is not the destination. It serves that for Meath Tailteann cup was just what the doctor ordered as a springboard on the development of this young team. This road is all about improvement and yes no question that is happening. ! However , this is part of the journey on our way back to compete with the big boys again. Full credit to Colm also in achieving this whilst trying to rebuild to such a large extent in such a short time .Some lovely old Meath qualities on view to day that will never go out of date. Going forward i still want to see much tighter defending in preparation for stiffer opposition up ahead. An added bonus to day was seeing Donal Keoghan receiving silver as captain .He has to rate as one of Meaths greatest servants in a very difficult era.The very best to Colm and backroom in plotting the road ahead for further continuous improvement from here . The journey has just begun , and yes we have lift off !!

Really enjoyed the game yesterday - first half was cagey with lots of mistakes but interesting all the same! Meath did a great job on Downs kickouts but didn't do much after that!
Second half was really good! Jack O'Connor really made a difference and his introduction seemed to open up the play! Jack Flynn was outstanding - and totally deserved MOM - his points were class. he has had a great year bar one game where he was picked at 11! He and Grey and McGowan will be around for a long time to come so we will have a really strong mid field!
I'd like to see Jones tried at 6 - when PH hangs up his boots we will need a strong 6!
Matt Costello also did really well and Ronan Ryan had a good game too! Brennan was very good in goal!!

Well done to all involved - great foundation laid!

Meath lost their biggest game of the season away to Offaly, it's important not to forget that.

Delighted for all involved but Jesus Down were terrible and we could have made things a lot easier on ourselves. Firstly why is Ciaran Caulfield starting ahead of Jack O'connor? Young Caulfield is just nowhere near the level yet. Also James mcentee and ronan Jones should have been taken off way earlier, both looked very leggy. The game totally passed by Aaron lynch and jordan Morris too. We had a lot of good players on the bench like Diarmuid Moriarty and Eoghan Frayne who are the brightest young players in meath and are ready to contribute but got no game time in croke park this year. Feels like a missed opportunity.

No so, Offaly loss has proved to be a blessing in disguise. Gave us the chance to regroup and introduce several players to senior intercounty football. Rebuild what is shaping up as a decent team and cherry on top Meath have qualified for next years A/I series. Overall a good season and Offaly loss brought the team together and showed what a commited group we have. If you are looking for failure try closer to home.

We are back to this narrative. Not sure you can call it successfull when we have been relegated to tier 2. We won that tier two competition as the highest rated team in it. Don't get me wrong it COULD prove beneficial in the long run so I'd say satisfactory end to the year... certainly not successful

BTW, I think we might of solved our goalkeeper problems. Brennan looks top notch. Solid, composed and good kick outs. Flynn taking plaudits and rightly so with the 4 points but my god, Conor Gray is some prospect. Thought he took game by scruff of neck and made it his.

Any year resulting in a cup is a successful year

Well It would be worse if Meath dropped into the Tailteann cup and didn't win it. So a bit of face saving. Well done to the young lads who worked hard and were not responsible for earlier mess ups prior to the cup . It is time for celebration and plan next year and onward later.

Again Managers should be kept away from microphones after matches when excited. Preferably leave the limelight to the players. The TV panel were bemused about what Chariot races and spear throwing had to do with anything
