Meath V Down TC Final.

Replying To stillaroyal:  "I agree but I think that its the GAA's effort to finish the all Irelands in double quick time that has resulted in this. It would have been great to bring groups of kids to the final but that wont happen now. And wee will have people from Monaghan and Dublin coming into their seats in front of everyone while our game is on.

Could Limerick Galway not have been played in Semple Stadium? Or Kilkenny Clare in the Gaelic Grounds? With the condensed seasons and suitable alternatives being available the playing of semi finals in Croker should not be an automatic.

Then again we had the GAA president dismissing the reports of crowd congestion in the Hogan the last day saying it was an 80,000 stadium. The fact that three quarters of it was not open didn't seem to dawn on him as a factor!"
All fair points stillaroyal. Even the 3 week wait to the final just to throw it in as a token gesture is a bit poor.

Play it this weekend on the Saturday evening with the all ireland minor final before it.

Then hurling double header on Sunday. Or one in croker and one in Thurles

And as for your reference to our president.... less said about him the better. His comments about the semi final were an absolute disgrace. "I didn't see any congestion...".
Well you weren't going to see it through the pane of glass...
I wonder what turnstile did he queue up to go through with his ticket which he paid for woth his own money... easy to make comments like his when your the most detached person there.

Wanted 5 lower hogan said I'd treat the youngest 2 who would be juvenile but I said hopefully we would win and it be great for them to be in hogan to see donal get the cup. After having 2k people in front of me came up that not only lower hogan gone but lower cusack too. And they wanted full price for davin or upper cusack. So I got 3 adult 2 juvenile for davin. Unreal. Also we season ticket holders and it didn't make one bit of difference, it use to."
Season ticket is a gimmick. Got rid of it years ago. Nearly worse off having it.

The gaa seriously need to look at theor ticketing operations, and handing ot over to ticketmaster certainly isn't a solution.

It definitely took some genius I'm the gaa to fix the Tailtean Cup final for the same day as Dublin playing

The fixing of this game is a joke, the ticketing situation is a joke, I never thought I'd hear myself say this but I'm actually considering just driving home for the weekend going to the bar in the Ratoath clubhouse and watching it there, the treatment of the TC final is really a joke

A real up yours from the GAA to the fans of Meath and Down. It's not too late for them to change the semi finals, and apologise to all concerned

Totally agree. She gets it for me and the kids every year. But I think I've gotten my last one after this fiasco

True. It really is just paid lip service too. And will be gone in next 5 years.

Ah I think its here for the long term.

I think that after 3 years, despite some people not loving it, the idea of going back to the past structure will be a non runner for everyone.

It may need tweaks, but in some form, its here for the long haul I think

You should probably get aWestmeath season ticket. It would be the right thing to do for your family

If you have season tickets there should have been Cusack lower tickets assigned to you in your account.

The communications to ST holders was abysmal though which I guess is standard for the GAA.

They sent an email to say there was a limited number of bring a friend seats available....but the email arrived about 5 hours after tickets went on sale so if you had already bought extras in a different location it was no use to you.

Why is everything the GAA turn their hand to so badly done?

I hear that there is going to be a protest outside Croke Park this weekend and again next. The GAA are Similar to RTE, just look at how GAA GO works or not is most cases, Who was head of it and now she is gone off into the sunset, retired on medical grounds, my ******** did she. They are getting a lot of money from Government also so they need to cop themselves on.... Hopefully the new GAA president from Armagh will do some thing positive. Going to the Pub to watch it and it will be my first game to miss in more than a decade....

Agree totally, Im not even trying anymore to source tickets. Ill watch it at home. I have to add that last year the Tailteann Cup got its fair share of air-time, almost always packaged with the Sam Maguire tournament concurrently, and it was given a fair shake in the media. It seemed like the development of teams was tantamount and it was refreshing. It's only been one year and already it seems like the poor relation. There has been a notable step down in enthusiasm from the media this year. It's sad to see. But hey, they follow the money and thats the name of the game.

However I agree with Jinxie too, its here to stay. And I can only see further re-structuring into a third tier down the line, along with the axing of the Provincials or at least the provincials will be taken out of the championship structure, possibly to a Jan/Feb tournament. League is quickly becoming king. It seems like an inexorable slide now coming up to 2030. Not necessarily a bad thing of course. Where Meath will end up as a result will be very interesting.

Re-emphasising that I back the team and management and hope they win the final and bring the trophy home, and ill be watching with all the nerves of any final, but the whole tournament has had a very, very short honeymoon period and its all a bit of a damp squib.

They treating it with disdain at this stage. As I say I got my tickets. But family members that wanted to go that haven't been to any matches were left without . Now tbh I'm actually excited. (Didn't think I would be, but I am. It's a chance to put something positive on a very bad year for Meath football all around (20s minors and seniors) even the ladies that kept us going watching them over last few years seem to be slipping.

It could be useful for teams like Meath as a re.building exercise in many ways.......I expect that the poor defending issue going back for several games will have been addressed in training . If not maybe we might get the Public Accounts Committe to do a nixer for us on What happens in training sessions in Meath? LOL !

We'll said Seadog, amazing to see a young lad accept he wasn't at the standard required but took it on the chin and went and worked his socks off to get back to squad. Sean has been one of our best during the championship. Same for James McEntee, went away worked hard on what he'd been told and got back. That shows to me that Colm and his team are working with folks and willing to reintroduce them if they get up to standards. The extended panel has really been a great way of getting lads together and to see if they're at the required standards and hopefully this continues for next year and onwards to allow this and next years U20 teams to develop outside of the pressure cooker of senior league/championship.

All Meath clubs were sent presale codes. They were sent to the clubs on 3 different times, as batches were made available. Every effort was made to ensure Meath and Down fans got a chance to buy tickets. Ask your club secretary where he/she communicated this. I know, everyone in my club got the tickets they wanted.

Absolutely !! Well done to the lads they took responsibility to try to meet the standard required . This is all about standards and how we can improve them. Suggestions that management should go back looking for any lad that didnt make the standard is total rubbish. There is 2 critical issues here one is a fitness issue for the player ,but much more importantly is an attitude or commitment deficiency issue if the player does not wish to fill the gap in his needs to meet the standard. .THE PLAYER TAKES RESPONSIBILITY HERE ! Yes the door is open if the player wants to do what is required of him ,if not thats ok bye bye. I hope this policy is strickly maintained by management regardless going forward. ATTITUDE hopefully continues to be a critical foundation stone on team development from here as should structured training sessions that are clearly seen to be designed to meet clearly identified needs on the playing field.
