Meath V Down TC Final.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Listened to a great podcast recently highlighting the attitudes of some players. And very positive to hear. The only thing that worries me for this weekend is motivation.
Down are solely focused on playing in all ire next year and see this as the way to achieve it, we seem to see this as winning silverware as that is the most important thing. Now I see both points , but I think the fact Down are in div 3 has focused them to win this so league won't matter, we have the cushion of still been able to qualify from league , but after this year that should not be seen as a foregone conclusion.
So for me personally it's about securing championship football next year (the silverware is a nice added bonus).
Team as expected, probably usual 2 changes before match. Looking forward to a good game and a Meath win

I've heard there might be another change too before kick off aside from the usual Flynn and hickey ones. Shouldn't be too hard for people to figure out what it might be.

Think everyone knows I'm not trying to act in the know, I don't know anyone in the camp or have connections. I'm reporting what I was told. If anyone else has heard it maybe they'll give details.

If they cant be motivated for a final in Croke Park there would be serious problem. Both teams will be fully focused on winning a football match. What comes with that is for next year.

Have to totally disagree with you on this. Absolutely zero chance the lads won't be motivated.

Is it the competition they wanted to be in as the start of the year?? No

Will it mean as much yo win it as the actual All Ireland?? No

Was there a chance that some weren't fully motivated in the early games of the competition?? Yes.

But now that they are in the final in Croke Park live on TV I can't see how any player wouldn't be motivated. If only motivated by the opportunity to make sure they aren't playing in the competition next year they will still be 100% motivated.

Not sure if that's letters in a name, initials or what Jinxie

But I'd imagine you know what I'm talking about from the response.

And no myself and Jinxie aren't the same person ;)

No doubt the team will be fully motivated, they have put in serious amount of effort and commitment over last few months, there is a final to be won, next year a seperate issue, team is building nicely and well capable of qualifying via Div 2 next year.

Our centenary cup win in 84 completely changed the course of Meath football for a generation. How important is this final boss?

Ok I see my post may be read in a different way than intended. Let me be clear both teams are motivated 100%. Probably better phrase to use would have been what's the aim rather than motivation. What's the battle cry going out on pitch. I think Downs will be let's get into all ire next year. And meaths might be let's win the cup. That was what I was trying to convey.

Not even the down management would have been fooled by Orourke naming Jack flynn on the bench, not a hope he isn't starting. I really hope the 3rd player you are referring too is Eoghan Frayne but Im thinking O'higgins has struggled in most games so maybe flood gets the start.

Best of luck to the players and management today! I'd expect at least one change with Flynn coming in. I hope Ronan Jones is fit to start. We will need his experience around the middle today. Up the Royal!

Best wishes to Colm Donal and everyone involved. We NEED to win this to end a bad year on a high and be in all ire next year.

Congratulations Meath on a brilliant win… It was great to see an attack minded team coming out on top as opposed to the usual defensive nonsense.. Well deserved

I am not sure what game you were watching but that was the most defensive set up this year by meath. By a mile.14-15 men behind the ball. No problem with it, it's about time as no way you can just attack...

Absolutely well done to Colm and the lads. Bit of pride and passion back in the jersey! Definitely progress being made with this young team.
Colm and back room deserve great credit for that performance. Great to see the lads enjoy their football at last!

To think a clown was baying fir Colm's blood from day one!! Will be on here now singing his praises or demanding minimum of promotion , Leinster and all Ireland next year!!

Favourites don't win the Tailtean Cup!!!!!! Hooray

Kick outs were excellent.
You need fielders in the middle of the field.
A bench is important.
You can pass the ball all day long BUT you have to kick scores.
You have to have the legs to go 75 minutes +
Tight marking is still a vital part of the game.

We had all the above today.

Next step
Score more regularly, especially when the opposition is down a man.
Transition more quickly to attack on the opposition's breakdown, a marked improvement in the second half today.

Hopefully
The experience of today should develop more vision in attack to pick open the blanket defence.
I could go on and on but savor the moment……well done all….
