Meath Under 20'S 2023

A journalist on Off the Ball again stating as though it is fact that there is an agreement in place between Colm O'Rourke and John McCarthy that the U20's will be left with the 20s until they are finished. Does this journalist have proof of this agreement? There are now four of the 20s panel called up to the Senior squad since the league finished. Mayo and Derry have both been using U20's players throughout their league. This ridiculous rule of where a player plays Senior football they are then automatically ineligible for the U20's team needs to go. It's also behond ridiculous that the U20 championship is still only getting going at the same time as the Senior Intercounty season. Why can't it start 4 or 5 weeks early? The intercounty calendar is an absolute mess. To many competitions that are meaningless.

COR addressed this in recent interview, a number of u20s would be brought into senior panel, however, they will continue to play for their age group until their championship ends. The football calander needs change, but getting the right balance to suit all is difficult..

Threw away that game from a winning position tonight. Very disappointing result.

Should beat most other quarter finalists but still disappointing not to go straight through to a semi.

Frayne goal chance to go 5 up late felt like a big turning point, thought the ref was awful towards Meath, its like he had a grudge against Conor Gray at times, not making excuses at all though thought Meath were poor in the 2nd half. Would like to see them get laois again in leinster think we can comfortably beat them on another day.

Indeed. Disappointing. But just need to pick themselves up and go again

A very disappointing result and it looks like this team isn't as good as we hoped. Getting beat by a very average Laois team, it's hard to see them winning anything.

Sure they may just not tog out the next time then. All their previous success was just a fluke. good lad.

Meath 'supporters' summed up in a nutshell.

You have probably been down under too long but Meath teams have had plenty of success at minor but have had very little to no success at the u20/21 grade.
This looks like a very winnable Leinster as I don't think there is a stand out team but going by last night it won't be Meath winning it.

Jesus it was one match. This is a team full of Leinster and all Ireland winning minors. That also only conceded 8 points in two games previously along with missing some key players.

Stupid post. They've proven there one of the best teams and will prove it again by the end of the under 20 championship

Agreed, this notion that some of these managers are great when they are bang average is baffling. Two years ago the same manager did not raise a gallop in an All Ireland semi final. Team looked benign of ideas. And don't get me started on the Blue rinse brigade at Co Board level.

100%
Some of our supporters are a disgrace with the way they go on.

Lads I think some perspective is needed here.

The same way we should not have been getting carried with the team beating Carlow and Longford comfortably we also should not be getting carried away with losing to a half decent Laois team. Nobody was claiming this Meath u20s team were unbeatable so lets just see where we are at after the Westmeath.

No need whatsoever to panic similar to there was no need whatsoever to start getting carried away with the 2 previous results. They are young kids basically who are very used to winning most games at under age county level so perhaps last night was the wake up call they needed .

Hopefully only a dip in form, they have a chance to reset, go again and prove they have ability we hoped for. An extra game may prove a benefit in long run.

Indeed, and they let Laois have their kick out in 2nd half , baffling with big men in the middle
