Well with four groups you need 2 teams in order to have a quarter final , makes perfect sense and the incentive to win group is to avoid another group winner.

This Bull of "an extra championship game" is pure nonsense and nothing more than extra gate receipts for the county board. Top 2 into a quarter final and bottom only into a relegation semi final and low a behold, you have no dead rubber games while at the same time not potentially screwing over a team who has won 2 out of 3 matches and missed out by a 1 point score difference."
the pace of change with 1oneeam gaining promotion and one being relegated is part of the problem. it means teams only have to in one game & they stay up, and if we are being honest there are teams , particularly in senior, who have been hanging around the grade for too long...just surviving....this is not good for the senior team , nor is it good for the teams beneath, who may have a short window, where they are capable of winning a junior or intermediate , and for whatever reason it just doesn't happen for them, and that opportunity is lots....there is a strong logic to at least two teams moving between the grades every year, to really freshen up the various levels, and to minimise the issue of dead rubbers

By the same token you need 2 teams from each group to have a relegation quarter final, and the incentive to come 3rd is to avoid another 3rd place team.

The incentive to come 3rd should be t avoid a relegation game altogether. For any team with aspirations of winning a championship they won't care about finishing 1st or 2nd as they know in order to win a championship you have to beat everyone and anyone.
With regards finishing 3rd for an 1easier1 relegation quarterfinal, the point remains there shouldn't be one!!! Bottom in each group to a relegation semi final is more than fair. A relegation quarter final is a money spinner end of, no team, whether its title contenders or relegation favorites' think its a good or fair idea, I'll guarantee you that

Group A: st collimcilles vs skryne, collimcilles haven't been up to much in the championship and find them selves in an uphill battle having to beat skryne by 7 to pre vale, they are a young side and I think the experience that skryne have will stand to them big time, Niall finnerty playing good football and I think Shaun leonard will pick him up, not too sure if he will be able for him though, darragh campion and Shane smyth are two dangers that cilles will have to keep an eye out for, it will be close but Skryne by 3

Wolfe tones vs senchalstown, senchalstowns first round shock win gave them confidence but they were put back in there place fairly quickly in r2, tones are reigning county champions and by no fluke and I don't see them having much of a problem here, oisin Martin and the oneill brothers in flying form and Sheppard shooting from all cylinders, Tones by 5+

Group B: Navan omahonys vs curraha, in my opinion this is the relegation battle final, two teams struggling big time with no confidence in camp, well you'd struggle to see where this confidence would come from if they have any, morriarty brothers and James McEntee will win this game for the ha, curraha by 2

Trim vs moynalvey, this will be a great game in summerhill, but rumours of harnan out for another few weeks and Cillian osullivan with an ankle injury will see this a one way game, moynalvey will struggle to cope with the likes of Aaron lynch and ciaran Caulfield, moynalvey don't really have a bench to use, trim haven't been tested bar the all Ireland club final and league final in the last year, trim comfortably by 6

Group C: Don/Ash vs simonstown, these two in a relegation battle has to be a first in donkeys years, the group of death is the only way to describe it, some possible selfish play against kells cost ashbourne that game, mckeever absolutely flying and it's hard to see him being stopped, conlon and kane should cause ash trouble in this game, simsonstown by the minimum

Ratoath vs kells, game of the weekend by a country mile. Two teams playing very good football brady has his men moving nicely while dempsey has seemed to straighten out the problems in kells that we have heard about, this will be a very tight attacking game of football , I think ratoaths midfield will win this game alone for them, although strong rumours Joey Wallace and sean Brazil out with long term injury's which could open them up a bit at the back and leave them short up top, a bit like the other game in this group I see this being close, ratoath by 2

Group D:dunboyne vs bracks, dunboyne the shock and disappointment of the championship by a country mile, they have the names they have all the physical atributes yet they are using the excuse of missing a few lads but every club are in the same boat, I seen the bracks against summerhill and they're discipline was a disgrace, going back to the game though it will be close, Leinehen isnt firing, they are relying on frees to get them to score, Lacey is playing well for them all the same, bracks are in the same boat relying on frees so this will be a low scoring game, dunboyne by 4

Summerhill vs na fianna, this should be interesting two teams flying from 1 to 15, walsh will need to be wrapped up for na fianna and either ronan or ross ryan should be able for that task, which is a big task, geoghan at wing back is playing good attacking football but he will have his hands full with either Kevin Ryan or davy Larkin who are both on fire, a local derby will be always tight, Adam mcdonnell has been Summerhill's stand out player along with Larkin so they will need a close eye on by na fianna, this will be very close but summerhill by 4

I'd go with you on the Skryne game - playing nicely and a decent league campaign - Campion missing against Tones in first game but back for this - Skyrne to do the job!

Also go with your call on Tones - think they will have too much for the Furze men!

OMahonys curraha is one of the hardest games to call - I think Navan will win this one but I think Ha will stay up when it comes to the playoffs!

I think Trim will beat Moynalvey and I feel they will have a serious say in the Keegan -

I think Ashbourne will be impacted by the two red cards in the Ratoath game - but I still feel they are a better team than the two losses would suggest! Town were poor against Kells - I will go with Ashbourne here but not sure it matters much!!

Ratoath to take Kells in a tight affair- Brazil is definitely out - broken collarbone or something! Bobby OBrien came on and made a difference against Don/Ash - if Joey w out maybe Bobby will slot in! Ratoath to win but might have to face Kells again to win Keegan!

Dunboyne have been really disappointing- I had them as a potential winner! Bracks seem to play on will power - if Dunboyne aren't up for this Bracks will take them - and I think they will

Summerhill look like the real deal - but Na Fianna won't give it up easy! Could be a cracker but the Hill to win!!

Another Ball of dead rubber games so cant really honestly call some of them.

The bottom 2 into relegation has solved nothing really, we going to have 3 challenge games instead of three championship games in Groups B, C & D.

Cant see past Ratoath if they stay injury free.

Skyrne - Cilles , Harry Rooney and Campion will have too much at midfield so skyrne to win
Tones - Seneschalstown , Tones will have too much physicality all over the pitch with Diamond and sheppard leading the charge
O mahony - Curragha , have not seen either this year - going for a draw
Trim v Moynalvey - harnan out will have a big impact , Douglas to have a big game but Moynalvey for me by 2
Donoughnore v simonstown = mcKeever to cause enough damage for Simonstown to edge it with McKeever going back to intercounty
Ratoath v Kells - shock of the round - Kells to win with Oisin and Fionn O reilly going well
Dunboyne v Bracks - go for a draw unless Dunboyne can get ronan jones get some form
Summerhill v Na Fianna if Shane walsh stopped , hill will win but dardis & frayne out for summerhill

Yeah have to agree, simonstown for a senior team they were very poor in all aspects, didn't lay a hand on Donaghmore, they will need a major improvement to stay up

This game meant nothing really with either team very little to play for. I think Simonstown might be looking to the next game…

Definitely wouldn't be reading too much into the last round of games where nothing really is at stake. Bar Dunboyne perhaps, I think Simonstown would fancy their chances against any of the teams that may come third.

They are on Monday 5th at 8.00pm - you can here them live through Meath gaa web site

So the 4 group winners are

Tones
Trim
Ratoath
Summerhill

Runners up
Na Fianna
Kells
Skyrne
Moynalvey

I believe it will be a group winner against a runner up

I'd say Kells are the team that the group winners will want to avoid - I know Ratoath can't get them!

Trim are probably the team the runners up want to get - but I think they underestimated- I'd fancy them against all the runners up although I think Kells would be a tough one for them!!

The relegation looks interesting - can't believe Dunboyne or Simonstown didn't win a game in the group - and they were well beaten this weekend by all accounts!

Curraha look most likley to go down but maybe if they can get a few lads that fighting spirit they have will keep them up!!
