Fair play to our eternal optimist. But I'd settle for a win of any sort. Our problem is that we don't score enough with the possession we gain. The goal apart, our second half scoring rate against Down and Offaly was pitiful, especially so against Down. So it is difficult to see us pulling clear by five points. A lot of scores have been got by backs getting forward and if you are approaching the end of a match and nursing a lead of a point or two I can't see defenders pushing forward and leaving space behind as one missed pass could be fatal.

This will have to be a defensive game as we simply don't have the forwards in form to hit big totals.

This is the game that we have to win and probably will given that Ricken is chopping and changing and giving new players an opportunity to prove themselves. Combined with some of the senior Cork players stepping away it leaves Hurley carrying a lot of responsibility up front and while they scored 2.17 last time out they conceded 3.22 which should signal a bumper day for our forwards. Also given the Captains imminent departure all of the team will want to send him off on a positive note. We are due a good game and this one looks better for me than Clare away or Derry at home. Only sour note is that Cork have Kerry in the Munster semi so their only hope of avoiding the Tailteann is to stay in this division. I have always said we'll stay up and don't see any reason to change now. I would like to see them going at a team though and if it is a shoot out then so be it.

It is Fraustrating that Meath can play better if players in form are picked. Maybe a new approach to selection and strategy and I would not be surprised if Meath turned around and won their last 3 matches in the league. We will know when the team is announced

Can people hold off from these predictions, Meath by 5, Meath by 7, Meath by 9. It's getting painful at this stage.

Let's all hope for an improvement in performance and there is precious little evidence to base anything other than a hope for a narrow win.

Let's hope the players do it for themselves and for Shane McEntee who has been a consistently committed player in recent years.

I am going for a draw by my head and a two point win by my heart.

How do you know players are in form that aren't being picked? A players reputation always seems to grow more from the bench at times.

Opinions differ. You believe a draw or two point win. I won't criticise you for that. I have my own opinion. And I expect same in return. Cheers

Agree with that! I would have thought more reason for county panelist's to play league with their clubs on free weekends! Game time and a chance to see where players are at form wise!

Would agree with you generally but Meath had a challenge game last weekend so I would imagine that impacted it

Hopefully it was against a very weak team so our forwards found a small bit of confidence again!

Its equally true if you get no chance your labelled no good.looking at a lad on bench not giving him Amble chance can be infuriating.others can do no wrong and wing it every game.

Huge amount of coverage surrounding Shane McEntee and the fact he has to travel for army duties. While wishing him well and there's no doubt a dedicated decent lad, there has to be serious questions about his selection during the league campaign and the fact he was made captain when there was knowledge that he would be heading away. This is our county team where we are trying to establish our best team for the championship and a way of playing. We will have to find a new centre back and captain midway through a disappointing league campaign not due to injury but for a reason that had already been known for some time.

Fair enough - everyone has an opinion. Just sometimes there is blind optimism with very little justification for the predictions. In fairness you debate the issues.

I get your point regarding a centre half back, somone probably should have started there and maybe bring Shane mac on to freshen it up in the second half.Still three matches to go so whoever is centre back has some game time to get up to speed before championship. As for the captain issue I dont really think it's that important, being a captain doesn't make you a better player.Yes of course it gives you pride to captain the team no doubt but in some cases it actually affects a person with putting more pressure on themselves and affects their game. Its more important to have leaders on the pitch and generally leaders get to be captains because if you need to be captain to lead then should you really be a captain?
