Some very interesting results at the weekend. Dunboyne and Kells both held. They would be seen as two of the favourites. I would feel that Dunboyne will bounce back but Kells look devoid of ideas. Wolfe Tones pressed up on them and were the better team apart from the first five minutes where Kells hit 1-2 of their 1-7 tally. Goal also looked a square ball to me as the lads on commentary stated. Triton (Meath) - Posts: 9 - 19/08/2021 09:00:46 2372937 Link 0 |
Definitely didn't expect Simonstown to be the first team guaranteed to be bottom of their group with a game to go. They should easily survive, but it's a big fall for them over the last few years. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 30/08/2021 11:55:47 2376334 Link 15 |
Thanks Ratoath Royal We delighted with a win in the senior championship but unfortunately it looks like that terrible decision in the first round to send off Danny Quinn for absolutely nothing will haunt us. We were in a very good position and looked the better team against the cilles until the referee/linesman decided to make the headlines. We dropped the heads in the last 5 minutes and let the cilles in for too many scores which definitely sealed our faith. Looking forward to the clash with Na Fianna, we certainly will give them a good game but even if we were to pull off a shock and win by a few points it will probably be no good as The HA already in relegation and cant see them risking too much against the Cilles. Looking like whoever beats Ratoath will win it, I just think Summerhill are the Dark Horses. thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 1073 - 30/08/2021 13:41:22 2376400 Link 0 |

Ridiculous and unnecessary that 3rd in group is in relegation play offs Anmhi364 (Meath) - Posts: 65 - 30/08/2021 15:33:17 2376464 Link 0 |
I think this was to solve the issue of teams not bothering if they were already safe in third place, I cant see much of an improvement with the new format to be honest, just leaves the relegation battle very interesting.

In my opinion Ratoath are still the ones to catch. Up4deMatch (Meath) - Posts: 20 - 30/08/2021 21:08:32 2376586 Link 0 |
So 3rd play team in group now also in relegation match? hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 424 - 31/08/2021 10:20:49 2376668 Link 0 |
Hardly that cut and dry. The three teams you mentioned are equally as capable of taking the crown on their day. Ratoath likely to play one of them in the QF - I'll save my money until after that one! Little mention of Wolfe Tones. Not many will want to play them. Dark horse GenderNeutral (Meath) - Posts: 114 - 31/08/2021 10:55:19 2376678 Link 0 |
If the 3rd placed team going into the relegation playoffs is so ridiculous, why aren't people equally annoyed by the 2nd placed team getting into the knockout stages? CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1664 - 31/08/2021 11:38:18 2376692 Link 16 |
well done on your super win in championship , I think you will put it up to Na Fianna being a derby encounter but I think their experience at senior will prevail

How is Na fianna and ballinabrackey a derby?

Agreed on Tones. They should have made the semi finals last year if I remember correctly, only a late Summerhill goal beat them. Assuming they don't do enough to overhaul Kells in first, they'll still fancy their chances against Na Fianna (presumably) in the quarter finals.

Where we are located Jimmy , Clonard , Longwood and Na Fianna would be the closest 3 clubs.

After the weekend results it confirms my gut feeling that Kells and Ratoath will be ones to beat again. Barney12345 (Meath) - Posts: 33 - 31/08/2021 17:33:54 2376835 Link 0 |
2 senior clubs beside each other other than summerhill

Aye I get ye, But closest and beside each other aren't the same thing. I travel with my work and would consider that a small Spin. (all be it greatly helped by motorway). But considering the Bracks location (hard to find a derby at this level). I'll let it slide.. Clonard and Longwood most definitely yes ..
