Replying To Crinigan:  "Theres no doubt that McKeever is in the top 5 forwards in Meath and is intercounty class. Does anyone know of the circumstances surrounding his departure last year at the end of the league?
It appeared acrimonious but then Tobin (who left at same time) was invited back into the fold this year without much rancor and played his part for a full campaign."
I would say there is a massive doubt...... he got plenty of chances while he was in and didn't look up to it

I'd disagree with that. He was our top scorer in the league in 2018 as far as I remember. I feel he would have been an excellent addition to the panel at the very least this season.

We will be v slow to improve if we continue to lose our best midfielders.

Difficult to see how we can stop young lads trying their hand at professional sport. Any decent fielder of the ball seems to be on their radar. However I cannot remember any Dublin lads going away recently-open to correction on this.

James Madden is with Brisbane Lions.

Yeah he would have been an excellent addition to the panel this year. And also would have been excellent to have him in the championship last year. But he walked away late in the day just before championship. Leave him where he is . Good player but we need lads who are willing to knuckle down and get on with it for the good of the team.

Anyone else think that James McEntee would make a fantastic full or corner forward? Boylan was famous for taking likes of Geraghty, Callaghan, B Reilly and Giles and converting them from defenders into forwards, could Andy do something similar with his nephew.

He's got serious power and pace and is a nice natural footballer in terms of his shooting, he's also a naturally strong lad. We need a Con O'Callaghan badly who can take lads on and go for goal, he's only one who springs to mind for me in the county . Likes of Newman, McKeever, Costello etc are lovely footballers but wouldn't have that searing pace or ability to take on a defence.

Absolutely not! James is better coming from deep using his running ability. Completely different game playing in the FF line

Isn't that exactly what people said about Geraghty? And he is perhaps an even a better full forward than wing back.

He wasn't great against Dunboyne in the recent league game! Sean Tobin much more impressive!

I was away last weekend so missed the senior and intermediate quarters.

Any players not already on the panel showing well? Seems we may be about to lose Cian McBride to Australia unfortunately...

Gavin McGowan from Ratoath was very good! Kept campion in check and really drove well out of defense
Ross was very good for Castletown - but he has been in the squad before

Meath hill keepers kickouts were outstanding.

Think Yorke has been training with the Seniors this year..... so would not be a surprise to see him getting game time

No new keepers in the panel supposedly, questions need to be asked.

Not sure they are back in communal training yet, just doing their own fitness stuff prescribed (as per GAA rules since we played into August). Too early to be saying no new additions in GK area I think.

I really hope McBride stays. I know it's a great opportunity but we can't just be passive in this. We need to sell it to him that he could be instrumental in bringing Meath back to the top rather than an also ran in the AFL.

I'm not saying he couldn't be more successful than that but chances are slim enough for most lads.

Nash was dropped from the Hawthorns starting squad but made it back on by the end of the season. Hard to see him back for a few more years now.

Imagine what he could have been doing in the green and gold.

You use the word supposedly, therefore you don't know for certain, therefore no questions can be asked, please stop trying to castigate until the season starts at least.

Have to say, and I wrote it at time on here, he should've been brought into Meath panel and given a few minutes in super 8s to give him a taste of what he might in store for him if he stayed at home and played with Meath. He was definitely good enough and had trained and played well with u20s throughout the year. It might not have made a difference to his decision but then again it might have - he prob wondered why he hadn't been called in himself and it might have factored into his decision. He's an exceptional talent and I think more suited to AFL than Nash (not as good an athlete as Nash though) - hence why so many top clubs came in for him.

In any case he's gone now which is big pity for us.
