Round 1 of the Sigerson Cup came to a conclusion at the weekend. Meath players are showing good form in the elite colleges competition.
TUS Midlands with Darragh McVann Summerhill and Simon Finn Ballinbrackey caused a major upset by beating University of Maynooth 2-18 to 0-21 after extra time in Athlone. McVann’s club mate and Meath senior star Eoghan Frayne kicked eight points for Maynooth. Dunshaughlin’s Conor Duke 0-3, Sean Emmanuel (St. Pats) 0-2 and Ballivor’s Brian O’Halloran 0-1 were also on the score sheet for the losing side that also included Sean O’Hare Rathkenny and Dunshaughlin’s Conor Gray.
DCU captained by Trim and Meath senior Ciaran Caulfield made a winning start with a 2-22 to 0-11 win over MTU Kerry.
Jordan Morris was the star of the show kicking four points as TU Dublin defeated University of Galway 0-8 to 0-5 at Grangegorman. St. Ultan’s Cian McBride started at midfield for the Dublin outfit.
UCD with Diarmuid Moriarty Curraha 0-1 and Trim’s Aaron Lynch 0-2 on board made a winning start against UCC. It finished 0-12 to 0-7 in Enniscorthy.
