Sligo great Eamonn O’Hara is set to be named as the new Boyle senior football manager.
The former All-Star midfielder, who lives locally, recently left Mohill after guiding them to back-to-back Leitrim SFC titles. He previously co-managed his native Tourlestrane to five consecutive Sligo SFC titles between 2016 and ’20, and had declared an interest in managing Leitrim after Mickey Graham’s departure after only two months in charge. Leitrim GAA, however, opted to appoint Down native Stephen Poacher instead.
O’Hara takes over the Boyle reins from Cian Smith who has been appointed Roscommon U20 manager for 2025. Under Smith, who had O’Hara’s former Tourlestrane and Sligo team-mate Gerry McGowan as one of his selectors, Boyle lost Roscommon SFC finals in 2022 and ’23 to Strokestown and St Brigid’s respectively, having not won the blue riband prize since 1927.
