Louth LGFA are on the lookout for a new adult team manager after the outgoing Paul Hanlon and his selectors Darren Clarke and Alan Page were forced to step down.

A proposal to retain the trio, who were appointed last year, was decisively defeated by 63 votes to 13 in a secret ballot at Wednesday night’s county board meeting. The decision came after a dispute led to 29 players withdrawing their services this year. In spite of this, Louth reached the All-Ireland junior final, only to lose narrowly to Fermanagh.

In a statement issued following the vote, Louth LGFA chairperson Liam O’Neill said: “On behalf of Louth LGFA, I wish to thank the outgoing management Paul Hanlon, Alan Page and Darren Clarke, and their backroom team, for their work and commitment to Louth LGFA over the past season.

“They oversaw us retain our status in the NFL, win a Leinster title and reach the All-Ireland final, only to lose out by a narrow margin.

“We as a County Executive did all we could to try and sort out any differences there were between players and management however, we met both parties on different occasions but we could not get both to meet together as the players would not agree to that proposal.

“Therefore, due process was followed resulting in a County Board meeting to make a decision on whether the management are retained or have their contract terminated.

“The result was a termination of their contract, meaning we now have to advertise the vacancy as a matter of urgency.”
