Dublin's Tommy Carr leaps to block David Beggy of Meath during the 3rd replay of the 1991 Leinster SFC at Croke Park

The epic four-game series between Meath and Dublin in the 1991 Leinster senior football championship gripped the Irish nation, which was still on a sporting high after the 1990 World Cup.

The historic games represented the climax of the GAA’s most celebrated rivalry and will forever be remembered by GAA fans everywhere. A powerful Meath team finally prevailed with a one-point victory, after three replays.

On Saturday October 19th at a famous Co Meath GAA hostelry, RTE sports presenter Darragh Maloney will join leading Dublin & Meath players from that era for a discussion about the four-game epic. The key moments from the games will be shown on big screen on the night.

Meath’s Kevin Foley, scorer of the winning goal in fourth game, will discuss his famous score with Dublin goalkeeper John O’Leary. That score denied O’Leary his first All Ireland medal - he went on to lift Sam Maguire as Dublin captain in 1995.

Meath players David Beggy, PJ Gillic, Martin O’Connell, Gerry McEntee and Colm Coyle, who played in all of the four games, will be interviewed on the night. And Dublin forward Charlie Redmond will join O’Leary to tell Dublin’s side of the story.

Joe Cassells who captained the Meath Team in 1988 will also be with us.

Rathkenny GFC will host the event at the Sally Gardens Pub in Creewood, Slane, at 7.30pm on Saturday 19th October. Tickets, at €15, will be available on the night. Proceeds of the night will go towards development of Rathkenny GFC facilities.
