Flanagan poised for Kildare job as Doyle calls it a day

Brian Flanagan has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant Kildare senior football manager’s role.
The Johnstownbridge clubman led the Lilywhites to All-Ireland U20 glory last year as well as to back-to-back Leinster titles in 2022 and ’23. He was also involved with Summerhill when they won the Meath SFC title last year and is now expected to be recommended as Glenn Ryan’s successor.
If Flanagan is appointed, he will have to plan without Eoin Doyle who has brought the curtain down on his 13-year inter-county career. The Naas clubman captained the Lilywhites for four years between 2016 and ’19, and also represented Ireland in the International Rules series in 2015.
"Eoin has had a distinguished career, representing his county with honour and distinction, on and off the field of play," Kildare GAA said in a statement.
"He has shown incredible commitment, discipline and outstanding leadership skills and has been someone that his fellow players have always looked up to," the statement added.
"His consistent high standards on the field of play have seen him clock up over 100 competitive appearances in the white jersey."
