Former Ballyhale Shamrocks manager James O’Connor has joined Cork senior hurling champions Midleton as a coach for the 2022 season.

O’Connor stepped down from his post with the Kilkenny champions after their defeat to Ballygunner in last month’s All-Ireland club SHC final at Croke Park.

Having steered the Shamrocks to two Kilkenny senior titles and a Leinster crown during his two-year spell with the club, O’Connor will form part of manager Steve Kane’s backroom team with Midleton.

The Rebel County champions appointed Kane as their new manager for the forthcoming season and retained outgoing boss Ger Fitzgerald in a selector role.
