Holders Crosserlough were the first team to move into the last four of this year’s Cavan senior football championship by defeating Arva on a 2-17 to 0-19 scoreline at Kingspan Breffni last night.
The Kilnaleck men had built up a 0-4 to 0-1 lead before Stephen Smith hammered in their first goal in the eight minute and the scores of county men Paddy Lynch (0-12) and Dara McVeety would see them go on to hold a 1-14 to 0-10 lead at half-time.
Conal Sheridan sent over a two-pointer from a free for Arva two minutes into the restart ahead of a ‘45’ from Lynch being wiped out by Jack Dobson’s free for the intermediate champions.
The Leitrim/Longford border men would get on level terms then thanks to a couple of two-pointers from Peter Morris ahead of Crosserlough steadying the ship via Lynch free being backed up by a goal from skipper Peter Smith.
From there, the points of Lynch and Emmett Boylan put a seal on the hard-fought win for the defending champions as they ushered themselves into the last four.
The other three quarter-finals in the Oliver Plunkett Cup race see Cavan Gaels up against Gowna this evening (7pm) ahead of Kingscourt Stars facing Ballyhaise tomorrow at 4pm and last year’s runners up Ramor United playing Mullahoran (6pm). All three games take place at Kingspan Breffni.
