Ulster GAA president Michael Geoghegan is adamant that next month’s Ulster SFC quarter-final between Antrim and Armagh will not be played in Corrigan Park.
This is despite an official objection being lodged by Antrim against the Ulster CCC’s decision to move the tie to Páirc Esler due to the West Belfast venue's limited capacity.
“We have had negotiations with Antrim since January. We've met the elected officers of Antrim County Board on numerous occasions and we've expressed the concerns of the Ulster Council regarding the suitability of the venue to host this game,” Geoghegan told Belfast Live at the launch of the 2025 Ulster U20FC in Omagh this week.
“The reason being there's 3,500 season ticket holders in Armagh - the capacity is 4,000 for Corrigan Park. The season ticket holders have always been looked after in terms of championship ticket availability. So, if we do that, that will leave 500 tickets.
“Out of that, you take the corporate sponsors, you take the county boards, you take the GPA allowance for the players and you can see the issues that are there.
“We had a meeting last week with the Competition Control Committee (CCC) who have the responsibility and they actually determine where the game is going to be held. It's the same with every game and every competition that the CCC is the arbitrary body and they're the deciding body as to where the game is going to be held.
"When we met last week, the decision of the CCC was that the game was going to be held in Páirc Esler.”
