Barcelona Gaels

Barcelona Gaels keep up their winning ways to make a bit of history today and earn their first victory in the Leinster club junior football championship.

After defeating Berlin GAA last month to become European champions, Barcelona Gaels became the first team from the Iberian Peninsula to enter into the Leinster club JFC and did so in winning fashion by handing Conahy Shamrocks (Kilkenny) a 3-11 to 1-5 defeat at UMPC Nowlan Park.

Aaron Hayes fired in a brace of goals in the opening half that saw the visitors towards a 2-6 to 0-3 half-time lead before Eoin O’Connor’s superb goal ensured Tiernan Kennedy’s side’s victory and a provincial quarter-final berth with it.

First formed in 2001, the win sees the Gaels becoming the first European side to progress in a Leinster competition and also helps mark a monumental day in the club’s history, as it also hosted a Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others blitz in Barcelona today which involved over 150 players.
