Peter Keane is set to make a return to inter-county management with Clare.

The former Kerry manager has been recommended to succeed fellow county man Mark Fitzgerald, who stepped down after just one season in charge. Keane was also believed to be in the running for the vacancy in Westmeath before it was filled by former Cavan All-Star Dermot McCabe recently.

A statement from Clare GAA read: “The Clare Senior Football Manager nomination committee have informed Clare County Board that after completing their interview process, Peter Keane (Kerry) is their recommendation to be put forward for ratification as Clare Senior Football Manager, at the upcoming November County Committee meeting.

“The nomination committee wish to thank all candidates who expressed interest in the role and engaged in the process with them.”

With Leitrim having also appointed Steven Poacher as their new manager over the weekend, Derry remain the only county with a vacancy ahead of the 2025 season.
