Monaghan captain Micheál Bannigan said he was pleased with the team’s second-half performance in last night’s Allianz Football League Division 2 final against Roscommon.

The Farney men trailed their Connacht counterparts by 0-12 to 0-11 at half-time in Croke Park before upping it a gear after the change of ends to win out by 1-26 to 0-19 in the end, with substitute Jack McCarron bagging the game’s only goal in the 61st minute.

Speaking to RTE Sport afterwards, Bannigan said the group had been looking forward to implementing their brand of football at headquarters and was delighted they were able to do so in the second period.

"We came in half-time and we weren't that happy. We didn't use the ball as well as we would've liked,” said the Aughnamullen clubman.

"Roscommon got six scores straight off our turnover which we wouldn't have been happy with. But we improved off in the second half and we're very happy to come out on top.

"There's no better place to implement our style of football than in Croke Park and we were really looking forward to getting up here and showing our pace and all our quality.

"We didn't do that in the first half. So we really just wanted to show that in the second-half and show what we can do.

" Promotion is massive for us, but for a lot of that group, that's our first trophy. A lot of us would have played in the U21 final here against Tyrone but some boys didn't.

"It's very important to win a final, and especially at Croke Park. I think that'll be important for the group."
