Former Offaly and Ireland International Rules star Ciaran McManus is still going strong for his club Tubber.
The 50-year-old scored a two-point free into the wind after coming off the bench against Ballinagar in the first round of the Offaly SFC ‘B’ on Saturday. It left Tubber trailing by 1-11 to 1-13 with 20 minutes remaining, but they only scored once more as recently-crowned Division 2 League champions Ballinagar pulled away for a 2-23 to 1-12 victory.
On a weekend when three of the four Offaly SFC Round 1 ties ended in draws – champions Tullamore were the only winners thanks to a second half demolition of Edenderry – the third-tier IFC was undermined by Kilcormac/Killoughey’s decision to hand St Rynagh’s a walkover on Saturday.
Predominantly a hurling club, K/K begin their quest for a four-in-a-row of Offaly SHC titles against Coolderry next Sunday evening.
