For the tenth time in as many years, fierce rivals Mayo and Dublin collided in the All-Ireland series at Croke Park.
This really has developed into a rivalry for the ages and today's semi-final was yet another thriller as the Connacht champions tried once more to detrone the seven-in-a-row-chasing Dubs.
Mayo got the better of the Sky Blues in their 2012 semi-final but since then had suffered a series of narrow misses against the Leinster kingpins, losing four finals and two semi-finals, twice taking the Dubs to replays.
The general consensus before throw-in was that Dublin have not been at their imperious best so far this year, so was today going to be the day when Mayo finally put one over on them? An extraordinary game unfolded in keeping with the recent tradition of Mayo-Dublin championship encounters.
