Padraic Joyce expects Shane Walsh to be fit for Galway’s Connacht SFC opener against New York on Sunday week.

The Kilmacud Crokes forward missed last Sunday’s Allianz Football League defeat to Kerry at Pearse Stadium with a back injury that required a ‘minor procedure’.

“Shane wasn’t involved. He had a back injury last week and had a routine procedure to be done during the week, which he got done. He didn’t respond properly from the injection he got,” the Galway manager explained to reporters.

“It is only a small thing really, he is fine. It is not going to be long-term or anything.”

Reflecting on the Tribesmen’s disappointing end to the league campaign, Joyce admitted: “The way the league went, I think we are lucky we survived in Division 1. To see a team (Tyrone) relegated on seven points, I think it is the first time ever. Disappointing performance by us overall.”
