Conor McManus believes there is no need for the two-point arc given the other new rules aimed at encouraging attacking football.

The recently-retired Monaghan sharpshooter was an interested spectator at last weekend’s Allianz League Division 2 local derby between his former team-mates and Cavan in Kingspan Breffni which the Farney County won on a 2-22 to 0-20 scoreline.

“If you took the two pointers out of it... Monaghan finished with 2-22, it would have been 2-16,” McManus told the ‘Second Captains’ podcast.

“Kicking those sort of scores at this stage of the year shows that, even without the two-point arc, the games were high-scoring games anyway.

“I think the two-pointer is going to be there to stay. Initially, my thoughts on it would have been I don't know if we need the two-point arc. With all the other rule changes, I think we're going to have an open-enough, free-flowing game as it is.”
