Cashel King Cormacs forward Oisín O'Donoghue scored a bizarre 'own point' at the start of last Sunday's Munster club IHC semi-final against Abbeydorney.
The Tipperary U20 player obviously forgot what way his side were playing when he struck a long-range point in the wrong direction. However, he later made amends by scoring a 46th minute goal to help Cashel to a 3-16 to 2-14 victory over their Kerry opponents and a place in the provincial final against Watergrasshill.
O'Donoghue isn't the first player to score an own point in an adult hurling fixture. Back in 2019, Clonkill's Niall 'Nipper' Dowdall fired over his own crossbar from 60 yards in his side's Westmeath Division 1 League final victory over Lough Lene Gaels. And like O'Donoghue, he split the posts straight from the throw-in.
