Meath county board have confirmed that both Joe McMahon and Martin Corey have stepped down from their respective coaching/selector roles with the Royals’ senior footballers.
It comes just eight days out from Meath’s Leinster championship opener against Carlow who saw senior team manager Shane Curran departing his own role earlier this week.
So far in Robbie Brennan’s first season in charge, the Royals won four of their seven outings in the Allianz Football League and came close to earning promotion to Division 1 only for a five-point defeat to Louth in the last round to spoil their bid.
Meath GAA released the following statement this evening to confirm that McMahon and Corey will not be part of Brennan’s backroom heading into the group’s championship campaign:
“Following the conclusion of the Allianz Football Football League, Joe McMahon and Martin Corey have stepped down from their roles as Selectors/Coaches with the Meath Senior Football Team.
“Robbie Brennan and the Meath Co. Management Committee thank both Joe and Martin for their efforts since their appointment and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
“The Senior Football panel and management continue their preparations for the opening round of the Leinster SFC against Carlow.
“There is no further comment to make at this time.”
