On the same weekend as Barcelona Gaels recorded an historic 3-11 to 1-5 victory over Conahy Shamrocks on their Leinster Club JFC debut, two other first round games in the same competition produced the grand total of just nine points each.

Scores were at a premium in the Ellistown (Kildare) v Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall (Westmeath) and Kilcavan (Laois) v Craobh Chiarain (Dublin) ties at Kinnegad and Laois Hire O’Moore Park respectively. Both games ended in 0-5 to 0-4 victories for Ellistown and Kilcavan, but you’d have to ask yourself how they were so low-scoring in such favourable weather conditions for this time of the year.

Barcelona Gaels will continue their fairytale season with a quarter-final against Kilcavan in Portlaoise this coming Saturday.
