2019 State Aid Free Championship - 26 Like(s)
In the 2019 State Aid Free Championship we are being treated to some good football. Ulster was described as the new Munster Hurling Championship! Roscommon shocked Mayo and then Galway. Limerick claimed Tipperary's scalp against the odds. Clare made a battle of it against Kerry while others were watching the Champions League final! Cork and Kerry was an open and attacking provincial final. There have been some great games in the qualifiers in recent weeks. Football in the State Aid Free Championship has been good and entertaining. State Aid Free have to meet State Aid at some stage. This is where things will change. The Super 8 State Aid Free Group looks like anyone will get out of the group. The State Aid group should see an interesting game in Dr. Hyde Park.

P.S. Super 8s as a result: Kerry, Donegal, Galway and Meath. Croke Park, Roscommon, Tyrone and Mayo.

All-Irelands won by a late dubious free? - 9 Like(s)
Tipperary nearly won the '14 hurling final after being awarded a late dubious free. They missed and Kilkenny won the replay. Are there examples of All-Irelands being won by award of a late dubious free?

2019 State Aid Free Championship - 8 Like(s)

Replying To Joxer:  "So moral victories for Clare and Cork in Munster is now a badge of honour. Very patronising post. It speaks volumes about the competition in Munster when Clare losing to Kerry by 6 points, Kerry having missed 3 open goals and the gap should have been 15 points, is seen as "making a battle of it". Alas the result in Munster was the same as it had been on 80 previous occasions, Kerry's annual coronation and token issuing of book markers to their panel. Munster is a huge issue for the GAA. If a spotlight is to be shone on Leinster now that Dublin's team continues it's purple patch then surely a century of dominance in Munster in the case of Kerry has to come into question. A massive problem now for HQ. What's good for the goose..."
Kerry travelled to Ennis while many were watching the Champions League final. Kerry also travelled to Cork for the Munster final. When did Dublin last win a provincial title without a game in Dublin?

Donegal, Mayo and Tyrone are favourites to make the semi-finals. Roscommon and Cork are capable of causing an upset against Tyrone but Tyrone will be expected to pick up wins as they did over Kildare and Cavan. Are Meath outsiders for making the semi-finals? I'm not writing them off, I just think every other team will be more confident of getting the results required.

Laois Have Put The Mcdonagh Cup On The Hurling Map - 7 Like(s)
Congratulations to Laois! As a supporter of a lower tier hurling county, it great to see one of our own get such a magnificent preliminary quarter-final victory. All McDonagh counties going forward can dream of emulating this Laois team of 2019.

Replying To avonali:  "lol. Do you sit in front of a computer all day recycling the same argument in different configurations just to seem 'reasonable'. This is nothing but old fashioned begrudgery masquerading as reasoned debate. Go out for a walk for yourself like a good man. Jesus, if the Dubs win the five in a row your computer will explode."
The English Women's Rugby team are dominating an amateur Six Nations. Can Dublin GAA relate to this?

Should Westmeath V Dublin Be In Mullingar? - 5 Like(s)
Leinster 2019: SF. Dublin v Kildare, Croke Park. Final. Dublin v Meath, Croke Park. Leinster 2020: QF. Westmeath v Dublin, Mullingar? The Leinster counties should seek venue equity. The AFL have a fixture equity policy. The year after Dublin host a Leinster final, their next Leinster game in the following year should be in the backyard of their opponent. Sure there are season ticket holders. A stipulation in the season ticket purchase can be that the quarter-final cannot be guaranteed depending on the host venue.

Replying To baire:  "Some of the Dublin supporters now have become unbearably arrogant and superior in attitude - we'll have to move out if they win the 5 in a row!"
They have won a state aided 4 in-a-row. Do they have the same respect of counties who have won without state aid?

Replying To baire:  "It wasn't just GAA hq, there was political interference by a certain Taoiseach from 1995 that deliberately skewed things in Dublin's favour. We all know this, he even boasted about it, you can read it on the web! As for expecting the privileged Pale to appreciate the fate of others, you're wasting your time!"
Was the political interference sought? Dublin seem to have had free reign in getting more and more advantages. Businesses follow the money. The GAA were shrewd to build Croke Park with premium and corporate levels. While the GAA were not initially on board Dublin GAA plans, when they saw the financial advantages they were happy to get on board. They have built a runaway train without any opposition. Other factors like fending off Leinster Rugby and bringing a Spring Series to Croke Park have added more layers of advantages.

Replying To Joxer:  "I don't know but one title in a football province must be worth 10 in a hurling province. I mean 3 games to win an AI title and one of those games against a hurling county. Hand back the medals. 81 titles in Munster. I mean really. Time for the Rebels to rebel and get Kerry moved into Ulster."
We were lucky to get out of Limerick with a draw in 2004. Can Dublin relate to playing a final in an opponents ground?

Congratulations to Kerry's Dr Crokes on winning the All-Ireland Senior Football Club Championship! Congratulations to Kerry's Darragh O'Connell on his man of the match performance for his adopted club in winning the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Club Championship! All from a rural county on the southwest coast of Ireland! ;-)

Dublin started playing their league games in Croke Park marketed as the Spring Series to fend off the growing support for Leinster Rugby. Munster, Connaught and Ulster rugby have professional status to compete with Leinster. Rural GAA counties do not.

Replying To Ashrules:  "At this stage it is very clear that there was poor governance in relation to the GAA's distribution of funds over many years which now will destroy the Football inter county championship. It is already too late to save the next few years but should be addressed sooner rather than later. Dublin officials used their location and influence to steal a march on their rivals who were asleep at the wheel. HQ let it happen. Some posters here are like the type of people who instead of admitting something is wrong have a knee jerk reaction of insisting they themselves are great and attack anyone telling the truth"
You've hit the nail on the head. Rural county boards and administrators are to blame too. As recently as the most recent congress, the idea of voting against Dublin having 2 Croke Park games in the Super 8s was called being mean spirited! It a team engineers a soft penalty, are they going to decline it? Were Mayo going to ask for 12 minutes of injury time last Saturday? The Munster Council declaring that Kerry and Cork should be seeded in opposite semi-finals was wrong. Fair play to the Munster Footballers who stood up against it. Fair play to the Donegal County Board for trying to bring Stadia fairness to the Super 8s.

Replying To bdbuddah:  "Even though we're in the group with the only 3 teams that I think that have any chance of stopping the 5 in a row I would not be terribly surprised if we win one of these games. Mayo are a funny championship team, they are capable of brilliance in one off games but also capable of losing to teams below them. Donegal game seems the most daunting, up in Donegal, in Michael Murphy they have by far the country's best footballer, we have done well against them in the league but this is obviously going to be harder. Kerry still have questions hanging over them, Cork and Clare did better against them then expected."
Donegal, Kerry and Mayo are putting in a big effort to try and crack the professional code alright. Tyrone are making huge efforts. The professional English women are dominating the amateur Six Nations. It's difficult for any amateur teams to compete against that.

Replying To Eddie the Exile:  "I believe it will be so. Objectively, Kerry are not good enough to close the gap, yet anyway. They know it too"
Before Ireland played England in the Women's Six Nations, the Irish coach said the English have 2 arms and 2 legs as well when asked about the gap!

Munster SFC draw 2020: Kerry v Cork in the semi-final! - 4 Like(s)
Munster fairness! Kerry and Cork receive a bye to the semi-finals as 2019 finalists but can draw each other at that stage. So it transpires, Munster 2020: QF. Waterford v Limerick QF. Clare v Tipperary SF. Waterford/Limerick v Clare/Tipperary SF. Kerry v Cork. Reminder: Kerry won the 2019 Munster Championship without any game in Killarney! PS. The loser of Kerry v Cork will start out in the 2021 Munster Quarter-finals. Fairness all around.

Should Leinster And Ulster Losing Semi-Finalists Enter The All-Ireland Series At A Later Stage? - 4 Like(s)
Connaught and Munster have less than 8 teams. Some teams as a result get a bye to the semi-finals. Leinster and Ulster have more than 8 teams. All teams have to win a quarter-final to get to the semi-finals. Should Leinster and Ulster semi-finalists enter the All-Ireland series at a later stage? It seems unfair to treat them the same as Connaught and Munster finalists. A solution to this might help alleviate the imbalance and bring fairness to the provincial structure.

Replying To superbluedub:  "Not against your lot there not . 2016 Kerry 2-23 - 0-17 Clare 2017 Kerry 1-18 - 1-12 Clare 2018 Kerry 0-32 - 0-10 Clare 2019 Kerry 1-15 - 0-12 Clare"
You see, this is a clear difference between my honesty and your waffle. Kerry and Dublin have always set a high standard in their respective provinces. People often overlook that difficult challenge for their fellow opponents. What has changed? Kerry are operating as normal. There is a rural depopulation issue but that's outside of football. Dublin received state aid. Is it right? Is it fair? Should being the capital mean an unequal investment of funding? We've had a good Ulster and Connaught championship this year. There is a good standard of football amongst the best in Ulster, the best in Connaught and Kerry. There is that gap then to the professional setup in the capital. Rural counties boards didn't support Donegal's motion. I have respect for the efforts being put in by the rural chasing pack against all the odds. I have no admiration for professional English women winning an amateur Six Nations. I have no respect for the Russian boxer who beat Conlan at the Olympics. Success can be bought. That is clear across many sports. Respect however cannot be bought. You can fool some of the people some of the time but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. Now let's get on with enjoying the courage of the rural challenge. Is mise le meas, The Legend.
