Laois will face Offaly in a historic Leinster minor hurling championship final after both sides sprung upsets in their respective semi-finals this afternoon.

Laois completely shredded the script with a 1-15 to 0-15 victory over Kilkenny in Portlaoise, while Offaly had too much for Dublin in a 3-18 to 1-15 win in Tullamore.

The O’Moore lads grabbed a goal through Jer Quinlan at a crucial juncture in the first-half that saw them lead by 1-6 to 0-6 at the interval.

Ben Deegan, who finished with 0-10, kept the scoreboard ticking over the for the hosts in the second-half as Kilkenny hunted for the goal they needed.

The Cats did get back within one (1-13 to 0-15) but two more Deegan points brought back the goal margin lead for Laois and their goalkeeper Brochan O’Reilly saved a 20-yard free late on in injury-time to put a seal on the famous win for the O’Moore County.

Managed by Declan Qualter with Waterford’s Derek McGrath part of the backroom team, they now face Offaly in what will be a novel final pairing next Saturday afternoon.

After conceded a Ruan O’Connor goal eight minutes in, the Faithful lads made their own goals count with Adam Screeney and Dan Ravenhill (penalty) blasting them into a 2-11 to 1-9 by the interval.

Screeney found the Dublin net again five minutes into the restart and from there Offaly were able to see out the nine-point triumph.
