A special event in memory of the legendary football manager John O’Mahony will be held as part of the Ballaghaderreen Arts Festival next month.

‘A Life Lived On The Line’ will be hosted by RTÉ’s Marty Morrissey in St Nathy’s College, Ballaghaderreen, the secondary school where the much-missed O’Mahony taught for many years and received his secondary education, on Friday, August 8 at 7pm.

The event will feature live panels of some of the biggest names in Gaelic Football who will reflect on the Mayo man's remarkable career as well as the future of Gaelic Football in the modern era. The panels will include GAA stars and pundits Pádraic Joyce, Kieran McGeeney, Declan Darcy, Martin Carney, Fergal O’Donnell, John Maher, Tommy Rooney, Marc Ó Sé and David McBrien.

The night follows on from the success of last year’s ‘Saving Gaelic Football’ event organised by O’Mahony, where Jim Gavin, All-Ireland winning Dublin manager and Chair of the GAA’s Football Review Group, was interviewed by Seán O’Rourke about the upcoming revolution in the rules of Gaelic Football. Continuing that theme, this year’s event will offer insights from key players, managers and pundits on the Gaelic Football scene on the impact of the new rules and the future of Gaelic Football.

O’Mahony, who passed away just over a year ago, guided Mayo and Leitrim to Connacht SFC titles as well as Galway to Sam Maguire Cup glory in 1998 and 2001 during an illustrious managerial career.
