St Paul’s GAC in Holywood has congratulated Rory McIlroy after he won the Masters at Augusta last Sunday to complete the career grand slam.
While McIlroy concentrated on golf from an early age, his caddy Harry Diamond represented St Paul’s at underage level. Rory’s uncle Mickey McDonald was a star forward for St Paul’s, Lurgan and Armagh in the 1980s and helped the Orchard County to a National Football League title in 1983.
“Congratulations to our wee Rory McIlroy. He has done our town proud,” the Co. Down GAA club said in a social media post with the golfer’s head subtly superimposed onto a St Paul’s jersey.
“He looks great in Green, but we prefer him in yellow and blue.
“We are so proud of our most famous resident.”
