Wicklow GAA has said it is “heartbroken” after the untimely death of Brendan Stone over this past weekend.

Brendan was a member of both Barndarrig GAA and Wicklow Rugby Football Club, while his brother Malachy is a current member of the Wicklow senior football panel.

Numerous sporting fixtures were called off over the weekend as a mark of respect, including Wicklow’s Allianz Football League Division 4 game against Wexford, and a minute’s silence was observed during yesterday’s Allianz Hurling League clash between Wicklow and Roscommon in Brendan’s honour.

Tributes from the Wicklow sporing community have been pouring in since the news of Brendan’s death, with Wicklow county board tweeting the following yesterday:

“Wicklow GAA is heartbroken at the untimely passing of Brendan Stone.

“Today, our deepest thoughts and sympathies are with his family—Peter, Patsy, Roisin, Aoibhin, Malachy, Fainche, Máire, and Diarmuid. Óg go deo.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”
