Errigal Ciarán are back in action today, just seven days after their dramatic Ulster club SFC final victory over Kilcoo.
Enda McGinley’s charges will have to park their celebrations as they prepare to host Carrickmore in a Tyrone Division 1 League playoff semi-final at 2pm. Whereas Errigal Ciarán have had plenty of match practice in recent weeks, it will be Carmen’s first competitive game in 11 weeks.
The structures are such in Tyrone that the League playoffs cannot take place while the qualified teams are still involved in the championship. In his address to this week’s Tyrone GAA convention, chairman Martin Sludden acknowledged that the rule is far from ideal.
“Playoffs, whether it be for promotion, relegation or play-offs for Division 1 league are proving difficult to get played whilst teams are still in the club championship,” he said.
“I thank the clubs for their patience during this period, especially the clubs who are waiting to play.”
