Derry boss Paddy Tally says he could not complain about his players’ effort despite them slipping to a fourth loss at the hands of Donegal yesterday.

The Oak Leafers looked set for their first victory of the Division 1 campaign when they led by 1-19 to 0-15 with eight minutes to go in Ballyshannon, but Shane O’Donnell’s goal turned the game on its head and the Ulster champions would send over six unaswered points to win by three in the end.

"I'm disappointed we didn't get the result, but I'm very pleased with the way the boys played," Tally told BBC Sport NI afterwards.

"Last week, we didn't play well, and we were all over the place. Today we looked much more like a team we could have got something out of it, but we didn't.

"I can't complain with the players' effort, but Donegal just got a march on us at the end of the game."

He added: "We need other results to go our way, and we just have to keep going, staying in Division 1 would be fantastic, but the bigger picture is the development of the squad and we have to get the squad ready for championship."
