Padraig Pearses booked their place in the semi-finals of the Roscommon senior football championship thanks to a 0-15 to 0-13 victory over St Brigid’s at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon.

The 2021 champions looked to be on their way out of the competition until Declan Kelly’s point in the late stages forced extra time where they were able to outscore the holders by 0-5 to 0-3.

Pearses had made the better start in normal time to run up a 0-6 to 0-3 lead by half-time, but it took St Brigid’s only seven minutes of the restart to level matters after points from Shane Cunnane, Conor Hand and Bobby Nugent (free).

Ruaidhrí Fallon steered the 18-time champions in front and more scores from Nugent and Paul McGrath looked to have them on their way until Pearses came with a late push which eventually saw Kelly equalise it at 0-10 apiece before the full-time whistle sounded.

Frank Canning’s men made the better start in extra time as points from Paul Carey and Declan Kenny helped them over the line. They now face St Faithleach’s for a place in the final with Michael Glaveys and Roscommon Gaels set to battle it out in the other semi-final.
