Derry's four-month search for a senior football manager is nearing an end amid reports that Paddy Tally is set to take over.
It's understood that Tally, who recently agreed to a fourth year as Kerry performance coach, met with Derry officials on Tuesday night and agreed to fill the void left by Mickey Harte last July. His name is expected to be put forward for ratification at a county board meeting tomorrow night.
The Galbally native was Harte's trainer when Tyrone won their first All-Ireland SFC title in 2003 before going on to coach Down to a surprise All-Ireland SFC final appearance under James McCartan in 2010.
Tally also worked in backroom teams for Derry - during Brian McIver's tenure - and Galway before managing Down for three years.
Tally's imminent move to Derry is a blow to Jack O'Connor who is under pressure to deliver the Sam Maguire in his final year as Kerry boss.
