McGeough Park in Haggardstown has been chosen as the venue for the Louth SFC and MFC finals on Sunday week.

It will be the first time the Geraldines’ grounds host the Joe Ward Cup decider since 1999 when Stabannon Parnells defeated Kilkerley Emmets. The final will be contested by St Mary’s, who defeated Newtown Blues at the same venue in the semi-final last Saturday, and Naomh Mairtin, whose last championship game there was against Shelmaliers of Wexford in the 2021 Leinster Club SFC. Throw-in is 3.30pm.

Neighbours St Pat’s and Cooley Kickhams face off in the MFC final at 1pm.

While some have questioned the choice of venue because it doesn’t have a stand, Geraldines are delighted to welcome back the showpiece game in what is their 120th year.

“The Geraldines are honoured to host the Louth GAA Senior Football Championship final between Naomh Martin and Ardee St. Marys, and the Minor Final between Cooley Kickhams and St Patrick’s,” the club said.

“This is the first time the club has hosted a county final since 1999 when it hosted Stabannon Parnells and Kilkerley Emmets. We look forward to welcoming all four clubs to Haggardstown on October 20th and their supporters, as well as supporters from other GAA clubs in the county and beyond.

“We wish to convey our thanks to Louth GAA for placing their trust in us to host such an important final and we look forward to another momentous occasion.”

The Wee County footballers were forced to play their ‘home’ All-Ireland SFC games against Meath and Cork over the Monaghan border in Inniskeen this summer due to the lack of a suitable venue.
