Former Kilkenny star Richie Power hopes that Henry Shefflin can “reinvigorate things” within the Cats senior hurling set-up after taking over as team manager.
After having succeeded Derek Lyng as Kilkenny’s new supremo last month, Shefflin’s backroom team was ratified at yesterday evening’s meeting of the county board.
It comprises of David Herity as the team’s head coach/selector, PJ Delaney (coach/selector), David Mulcahy (selector) and Darragh Mulcahy (head of Strength & Conditioning).
Speaking to KCLR 96FM, eight-time All-Ireland winner Power says he believes that Kilkenny have made the right appointment in his former team mate Shefflin.
“It is great to see him over it, it was only a matter of time before he did get the job. Bringing David Herity with him is a huge plus,” Power stated.
“I have heard nothing but positive things coming out of Tipperary about David and the impact he has had there. You would be hoping he brings that same energy and work rate to Kilkenny and I’m sure he will.”
He added: “It’s a big challenge, no point in saying any different. Where we finished up this year is not where Kilkenny supporters want to see that team. There is probably a lot of work to be done.”
