Kerry picked up their second pair of points in this year’s Joe McDonagh Cup by powering past Down in the closing quarter for a 0-26 to 2-12 victory in Tralee this afternoon.
Goals from Daithi Sands and Caolan Taggart had Down leading by 2-2 to 0-4 after the opening 20 minutes prior to points from Dan Goggins, Maurice O’Connor (3) and Killian Hayes levelling things for the home side come half-time (0-10 to 2-4).
Goggins hit two points early in the restart for the Kingdom and, from there, they’d eventually move up the gears as O’Connor (2) and David Woulfe sailed over to move them three points clear.
Then came more white flags from Ronan Walsh, Brandon Barrett, Gavin Dooley and Fionan Mackessy (free) down the home stretch to ensure Kerry’s eight-point win as they join Laois at the top of the table.
