Galway claimed the Connacht Senior Hurling League title last night thanks to a 1-25 to 1-19 victory over Roscommon at the NUIG Connacht Air Dome.
Under the rule of Eamon O’Shea, whose development squad was assembled exclusively from seven junior clubs in the county, the Tribesmen dominated long portions of the game before the Rossies took some tarnish off the score-line towards the end.
Eamonn Trayers’ goal helped Galway to take in a commanding 1-16 to 1-7 lead at the break and the scores of Donall Ó Cualán, Trayers, Shane Kelly and Ryan Folan helped ensure the win.
Young full-forward Paddy Fallon shone for Roscommon in the closing quarter, bringing his personal tally up to 0-11, but it proved to be in vain as Galway collected the silverware.
Earlier in the day, New York captured the Connacht Hurling League Shield thanks toa 3-29 to 1-17 win against Leitrim at the same venue.
