Mayo's Eoghan McLaughlin is undergoing surgery today for a double jaw fracture.

The wing-back has been hospitalised after being stretchered off following a hefty challenge from John Small during the second-half of his side's extra-time win over holders Dublin at Croke Park.

Ballymun Kickhams clubman Small escaped punishment for the incident which left the Mayo sideline enraged as referee Conor Lane allowed play to continue with McLaughlin lying motionless on the ground.

His club Westport GAA confirmed the news on Twitter this afternoon, extending their best wishes to the talented youngster.

"Westport GAA extends our best wishes to Eoghan Mc Laughlin who undergoes an operation for a double jaw fracture today," they tweeted.

"We look forward to seeing Eoghan back in the green & red of Mayo and blue of Westport soon."

Mayo were already short the services of the championship's all-time top scorer Cillian O'Connor and All-Star defender Oisin Mullin, who was injured in the run-up to the semi-final.
