Newly-crowned Ulster football champions Errigal Ciarán’s hopes of a domestic league and championship double were ended by local rivals Carrickmore yesterday.

Despite having two players sent off, Carrickmore held on for a 0-10 to 1-6 victory and a place in the Tyrone ACFL Division 1 final against Dungannon next weekend after substitute Tom Loughran fisted a late goal for Errigal Ciarán. The league semi-final took place in Dunmoyle just a week after Errigal edged out Kilcoo in the Ulster final and 11 weeks after Carmen played their last competitive game.

While disappointed to see his side’s winning run come to an end, Errigal manager Enda McGinley is unlikely to lose any sleep over it after he rested his entire first team ahead of the All-Ireland semi-final against Dr Crokes in three weeks’ time.
