Wexford club in Leinster action twice in three days

November 05, 2024

Castletown will represent Wexford in this year's Leinster club senior football championship.

Castletown-Liam Mellows will be in Leinster Club Championship action twice in three days after completing a Wexford SFC and IAHC double last weekend.

A week after their 0-9 to 0-6 victory over Gusserane in the Wexford SFC final, Castletown-Liam Mellows added the IAHC title last Sunday following a thrilling 2-18 to 0-23 win over Monageer-Boolavogue. Brendan Halpin’s last-minute winner secured a first hurling title in 57 years and first-ever football and hurling championship double for the dual club.

It means that Castletown-Liam Mellows will meet Moorefield of Kildare in Round 1 of the Leinster Club JHC in Hawkfield on Saturday at 1.30pm. They will be on the road again this night week (Tuesday, November 12) for a Leinster Club SFC quarter-final against Westmeath kingpins St Loman’s in Lakepoint Park, which was originally fixed for Sunday.
