Offaly dual star Leon Fox has transferred to Louth club Dreadnots.
The move, which was approved by Leinster GAA last week, comes after the Drogheda-based garda declared for the Louth hurlers and lined out at centre back in their Allianz League Division 4 success earlier this year. The winning Louth team was captained by another Offaly man and St Rynagh’s goalkeeper Conor Clancy, who is also working in the Wee County as a teacher.
Fox is a vastly-experienced and physically-strong player who will be a big loss to his home clubs Belmont (hurling) and Ferbane (football). By the same token, he will be a major addition to his new club in Clogherhead. He won Christy Ring and Joe McDonagh Cup medals with the Offaly hurlers in 2021 and ’24 respectively, and has also represented the Faithful County in senior football.
At club level, Fox’s finest hour came in 2019 when he helped Ferbane to Offaly SFC glory at Rhode's expense. Ferbane came up short in the last two Offaly SFC finals against Tullamore, while Fox has also lost a number of Offaly SHC semi-finals with Belmont. He did, however, have the consolation of winning an historic Division 1 League title with them last year.
