Munterconnaught are celebrating a first Cavan JFC title in 31 years after edging out Kill Shamrocks by 0-11 to 0-10 at Kingspan Breffni last Sunday.
However, spectators were wondering if the Football Review Committee’s rule changes were having any impact after a entirely forgettable opening 30 minutes yielded just two points from close-in frees. Thankfully, the fare improved considerably after that with the sides being level eight times before substitute Shane Hanly kicked the winner in injury-time to land the Sean Leddy Cup for ‘The Munchies’.
After Enda O’Shea (Munterconnaught) and Ben McIntyre (Kill) traded frees in the first half-hour, the game finally came to life in stoppage-time when Ryan Nwaneri replied to a Conor Bannon two-pointer for Kill, who led by 0-3 to 0-2 at the break.
The second half was a much livelier affair that saw the lead change hands a number of times before Hanly made himself the Munterconnaught hero.
TweetThis might genuinely be the worst county final i’ve ever seen in my life. Both scores from 13m frees. pic.twitter.com/Ulfa0zuPS4
