The first of goal of this weekend’s All-Ireland senior football championship quarter-finals went the way of Monaghan as they punished a misplaced Donegal kick-out.
A thoroughly entertaining first-half at Croke Park was 27 minutes old when Shaun Patton’s restart went straight to the Farney men and skipper Micheál Bannigan was fed through to roll in a low finish to the net.
The goal put Monaghan four in front and they’d go on to increase their lead before closing the half with a Rory Beggan two-pointer, leaving the scoreboard reading 1-15 to 0-11 in their favour come the break.
