Padraig Pearses manager Frank Canning believes his side will have to produce another big performance against Mohill next weekend if they’re to reach the Connacht club SFC final.
The 7/2 underdogs knocked out five-time All-Ireland champions Corofin with a stunning 2-10 to 0-10 victory in Tuam Stadium yesterday to underline their own Andy Merrigan Cup credentials, but Canning wasn’t getting carried away.
“It’s actually a bigger worry for next week than it was today because there will probably be a bit more pressure on us. We have to go and do it again,” Canning – who is part of the famous Portumna and Galway hurling family – told TG4.
“An outstanding first half, but our second half left a lot to be desired at times. Thankfully, we had a good cushion as Corofin showed their quality in the last 15 minutes to bring it back to three points before we got the goal at the end.”
He added: “We concentrate on ourselves as a team. We don’t really talk about the opposition. It’s all about ourselves and if we perform, we feel we’re as good as anyone. But the reality is you have to go out and do it, and that’s the same for any team.”
